#thankfulfor family

Every week through the month of May, I will share one thing I am thankful for and how this time of COVID-19 has illuminated that in my life. This week I’m highlighting my family.

When the virus got serious I was still living at my apartment and working at the office over spring break. At work we discussed my schedule for the following weeks as my university switched to online learning and my availability would be different. Not 8 hours later, our plans changed completely and the whole office was preparing to work from home. My job is specific to being physically at the office and therefore was put on hold. That evening, I found myself considering the option of returning to my parent’s for the foreseeable future. Two days later I packed up some things and drove north to be with my family.

For the next two weeks I had many phone calls with friends in which we expressed the things that we are thankful for in this time. My two big things were the opportunity to rest from my regular busyness, and that my parents are willing and able to house and support me in a time when I would have been isolated and unable to support myself as usual.

Throwback to 3 summers ago and WOW, has time flown!
Lord willing, in 7 short months, we'll all be able to say we're a graduate from the school we rep in this photo!

Rest in this time has not always looked or felt restful, and learning how to live with family again (especially amidst a crisis) has its own set of challenges. In all of this, I have found a deeper appreciation for family time and the ability to go on walks, eat meals, workout, read books, and rest with each other. Opportunities for our family to all spend time together recently have been few and oftentimes far between. So, the chance we have to all live in the same town at this time is one I pray we don’t take for granted.

Thanks Team Horner for being the support system I often take for granted, but wouldn’t be who I am without.

Love ya longtime,
Jacqueline
